Notes from the plant tag:

Banksia plagiocarpa "Hinchinbrook Island" is a stunning tall shrub featuring large mushroom grey flowers opening to deep red and finishing as stunning, dark brown cones.  Flushes of velvet burgundy foliage mature to deep green.

USES:  Banksia Hinchinbrook makes an excellent hedge or specimen plant.  Originating on Hinchinbrook Island Queensland, this is a tropical banksia that grows well as far south as Victoria.

POSITION:  "Hinchinbrook Island" prefers a free draining soil with plenty of sunlight and will withstand a light frost.  Drainage can be improved if necessary by building up beds with compost and river sand and incorporating some blood and bone and gypsum.

WATERING:  Water thoroughly after planting every 3 days in summer or weekly in winter.  Once established, deep watering through dry times is recommended weekly.

FERTILISE:  Fertilise with slow release native fertiliser which is low in phosphorous.  Use chelated iron or ferrous sulphate if any yellowing of leaves occurs.  Water and mulch well throughout the drier months.

PRUNING:  Prune to maintain compact habit.
