Princess Fancy-Plants:
"Personally I've always preferred Common Jasmine to Chinese Star Jasmine. I love the pink undertones and prefer the more gentle fragrance of the Common Jasmine. As Common Jasmine flowers a little earlier than Chinese Star Jasmine, it is one of the first fragrances to herald the arrival of Spring, which in South-East Queensland lasts for about 10 minutes.
If you have a spot that is a little shady, I've found Chinese Star Jasmine to be the tougher of the two. Although I've successfully grown Common Jasmine in shade as well - it just doesn't grow as quickly or flower quite as much as it does in the sun."
