THIS IS A QUALITY GRAFTED PLANT

Many plants with superior or highly desirable flowers, foliage, fruit or growth habits do not perform well on their own roots.  To overcome this problem a piece from the desired plant is grafted onto the lower stem of a closely related plant with a more robust root system.  This guarantees that the grafted plant will have the same superior or highly desirable features of the parent plant but will be healthier, more vigorous and longer lived under a broad range of conditions.

Sometimes a grafted plant will produce shoots from below the point at which it was grafted.  These shoots will usually grow more vigorously than the rest of the plant and if not removed they will eventually overwhelm the superior or highly desirable part of the plant above the graft union.  Such shoots should be cut of flush with the main stem with a sharp knife or secateurs.
