Small, showy, evergreen shrub bearing a profusion of vivid, scarlet flowers in winter and spring. 

Ideal low hedge, windbreak or screen. The flowers attract nectar feeding birds and the prickly foliage provides shelter for birds. 

Responds well to light pruning. Thrives in a sunny, open position. Tolerates poor soils, extended dry periods and light frosts.
