In sub-tropical growing zones such as Brisbane, it is advisable to avoid planting in any position where the tree will be subjected to hot afternoon sun.

 

Notes from the plant tag:

Highly prized as garden specimen trees for their grace and elegance, their brilliantly coloured autumn leaves, attractive bark and fresh, new spring growth.  Acers take on a graceful shape as they mature.

Suited to garden beds or in containers on patios where the autumn colour may be best appreciated.  May also be grown as a bonsai plant.

Prefers a cool, sheltered, partly shaded position in moist, well drained soil.  Protect from afternoon sun.  Water regularly after planting until established.  Fertilise in late winter with a complete fertiliser.  Pruning is not usually required.
