Notes from the plant tag:
A cultivar of the native tree from NE NSW and Queensland, Pinkalicious was bred in Australia by Hidden Valley Plantations especially for the home gardener.
FEATURES: Upright, evergreen tree with stunning long pink flower racemes lasting up to 6 weeks in late Winter/early Spring. Prolific producer of delicious high quality nuts that mature in autumn. The leaves are smooth and the new flush is shiny and pink.
CONDITIONS: Performs well in cool temperate to subtropical climates. Will tolerate light frosts when mature but needs protection from frost when young. Requires a sunny position away from strong wind. Grows in wide range of well-drained soil types with pH from neutral to slightly acidic.
FOR BEST RESULTS: Plant with minimum of root disturbance and ensure top of potting mix is at ground level. Take care to remove all air pockets around roots by back filling progressively and watering in well at each stage. Stake at planting to assist establishment and, in hot areas, paint trunk with diluted water-based paint to avoid sunburn. To alleviate water stress, particularly when young, mulch well but ensure mulch does not contact trunk.
Fertilise lightly with a blanaced fertiliser after cropping in Autumn and in Winter and Spring. Tree can be topped in required to maintain a height suitable for your garden.
USES: Tree can be used as a feature or for shade. Macadamia nuts are one of the world's healthiest nuts and are very tasty eaten fresh, roasted, or used in cooking.
