Spectacular, deciduous climber with moderately scented lilac flowers that are tinged blue-purple.  80-130 flowers are carried in racemes 50-100 cm long.

Classic climber to grow over a sturdy pergola or garden arch, or walls and fences and along verandahs.  Requires strong support.

Flowers best in a sunny site with plenty of water over the flowering period.  Prune after flowering and again in winter if necessary to control size.  Apply compost in spring.

Caution:  harmful if eaten.
