A spectacular Queensland native wattle renowned for its unusual zigzagging branches and brilliant golden-yellow flowers. During winter and spring, its graceful, arching stems become adorned with masses of fluffy, golden flower balls, creating a magnificent display of colour. The long, gently curved green foliage is complemented by attractive reddish-bronze new growth, providing ornamental interest even when the plant is not flowering.
With its distinctive architectural branching and naturally spreading, slightly weeping habit, Zig Zag Wattle makes a striking feature in larger gardens and open landscapes. Its elegant form and vibrant flowers provide a beautiful contrast to other native shrubs, while the abundant blooms attract bees and other beneficial pollinating insects.
Thrives in full sun to light shade and prefers well-drained soil. Naturally occurring in the drier regions of central Queensland, it is well adapted to warm conditions and tolerates periods of drought once established. Water regularly during establishment, avoid prolonged waterlogging and prune lightly after flowering if shaping is required. Best suited to gardens with sufficient space to accommodate its spreading growth.
