A beautiful, hardy Australian native shrub featuring attractive, small grey-green leaves and masses of vibrant golden-yellow and reddish-orange, pea-shaped flowers. The spectacular two-toned blooms, resembling the colours of bacon and eggs, appear from late winter through spring, often covering the branches in a brilliant display.
Its naturally dense, spreading growth habit makes it an excellent choice for native gardens, mixed borders, informal hedges, low screening and feature planting. The colourful flowers attract butterflies and beneficial pollinating insects, while the evergreen foliage provides year-round garden interest.
Prefers full sun to part shade and well-drained soil. In Brisbane's warm climate, a position with some protection from the hot afternoon sun is beneficial. Once established, it tolerates light frost, coastal conditions and short periods of dryness. Light pruning after flowering encourages dense, bushy growth and helps maintain a compact shape. Avoid waterlogged soils, particularly during prolonged wet weather.
