A beautiful, compact ornamental grass prized for its striking silvery-blue foliage and naturally rounded, tufted growth habit. The fine, slender leaves form neat, softly textured mounds that provide year-round colour and contrast in the garden. Delicate flower stems emerge above the foliage during spring and summer, adding movement and interest.
Blue Fescue is particularly effective when planted in groups to create a sea of shimmering blue foliage. Its compact size makes it ideal for edging pathways, rockeries, contemporary landscapes, gravel gardens and decorative containers. The distinctive blue colouring contrasts beautifully with green foliage, flowering perennials and natural stone.
Prefers a sunny position and well-drained soil, and is tolerant of frost and dry conditions once established. In Brisbane's subtropical climate, Blue Fescue performs best with morning sunshine, protection from intense afternoon heat and excellent drainage. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soils and excessive summer watering, as prolonged heat and humidity can cause plants to deteriorate. Lightly comb or trim away dead foliage to maintain a tidy appearance.
